Mysore/Mysore: Observing that students should strive to fulfill the aspirations of their parents, Chamundeshwari MLA GT Devegowda (GTD) called on female students to engage in music, arts, dance and other extracurricular activities, in addition to their studies.

He was speaking after the inauguration of the new D. Devaraj Urs Post-Matric Girls Hostel in Rajarajeshwarinagar during a program organized under the joint auspices of the District Administration, Zilla Panchayat and the Welfare Department of backward classes on Wednesday.

Noting that most parents dream of their children becoming engineers, doctors, bureaucrats, etc., GTD said children should study hard and with determination to achieve this. Students should also maintain good relationships with their hostel mates and college mates, he added. Emphasizing the need to keep the hostel premises clean and tidy, GTD said it was also important to have a garden and flowering plants on the hostel premises.

Believing that students should read books on Sharanas and philosophers such as Basavanna, he recalled that as President of the ZP earlier, he used to organize workshops for inn keepers, in which Seers gave lectures.

MLC CN Manjegowda said that the late Devaraj Urs established the Backward Classes Welfare Department and opened student hostels with the aim of the backward students in the community studying well and becoming economically self-sufficient. But although the government gives all the facilities, the performance of the hostel students in the exams is not up to par, he regretted. He asked the students at the inn to study well and secure their ranks.

Pointing out that there are 93 student hostels in Mysuru district, he said the government was spending millions of rupees on student welfare.

Noting that students are a vital part of society, he urged them to achieve Devaraj Urs’ dreams by excelling in studies, winning laurels and making outstanding achievements.

The District Backward Class Welfare Officer, HS Bindya, hosted the rally, while Mahalakshmi attended.

Nirmiti Planning Officer Kendra HB Satish, Deputy Engineer KS Ramesh, Bogadi City Executive Director Panchayat Shyamasundar, Social Welfare Officers Taluk Chandrakala, Vishwanath, Swarnalatha, Mahesh, Premkumar, Satish, Meena , the hostel office manager Deepak and others were present.
