Carson City, Crystal Libraries offering book clubs and programs this spring

The Carson City Public Library Book Club now features “At Home: A Short History of Private Life” by Bill Bryson. In this living book, Bryson tells us a fascinating story of the modern home. It takes the reader on a tour of their own home, using each room to explore the vast history of household artifacts we take for granted. Bryson transforms mundane facts into the most surprising and entertaining exposition. The book club will discuss “At Home” at 6 p.m. May 3 at the Carson City Library.

The Crystal Community Library Book Club now features “These Are My Words: The Journal of Sarah Agnes Prine 1881-1901, Arizona Territories” by Nancy Turner. The book club will discuss this moving and gripping American saga inspired by the author’s family memoirs at 6:30 p.m. on May 16 at the Crystal Library.

LIBRARY PROGRAMS

The Carson City Public Library is pleased to host a Writers Group for all interested adults who wish to share their writings with others and provide feedback to fellow writers. Hosted by Kathy Kurtze, the group will meet the first Wednesday of each month from 3-4:30 p.m. at the library. Please join us.

Genealogy enthusiasts are invited to participate in a study session at the Crystal Community Library. Share albums, photos and searches. The next session will be at 2 p.m. on April 29. Please call the library for details at (989) 235-6111.

The Crystal Community Library Seed Library is now open for a second season. Please stop by to see our beautiful gardening display and “check out” your seeds of choice.

Mark your calendars for 6 p.m. on May 2 at the Carson City Public Library for a performance by acclaimed Vermont musical duo Hungrytown. Rebecca Hall and Ken Anderson have performed their beautiful original harmonies and tunes all over the world. This concert event inspired by folk music is free. Want to try a new hobby? The Carson City Public Library has some cool items in our Stuff Library. We now have a metal detector and a video to digital converter. Crystal Community Library has a telescope and puzzles. Both libraries have hotspots. These items are available at checkout for customers 18 years of age or older.
