August 27, as part of the United Methodist Church’s 125 Centenniale The anniversary celebration, a meeting of Girls Clubs, Boys Y Clubs and MYF (Methodist Youth Fellowship) was held.

From the 1950s at Centenary’s 35e and Normandy, new Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs have been created every year for more than two decades. The clubs offered fellowship and learning, opportunities for community outreach, and ways to contribute to the life of the church. With the active participation of boys and their fathers, girls and their mothers, family bonds were strengthened and parents had wonderful ways to bond not only with their children but also with other parents.

In the early 1990s, the last children were young adults. This wonderful program of faith building, friendship development, fellowship and service would come to a conclusion.

125 people attended this event as participants reconnected with people from their childhood and adolescence. Judging by the hugs and the cacophony of voices in the room, it was a joyous and happy moment. Programming was kept to a minimum, but that didn’t matter; people were so excited to see each other that it was impossible to stifle conversations.

Everyone had wonderful memories to share, fun stories to tell and achievements to remember. There were also decades of lived lives to catch up on.

Some club members brought mementos from their days at the club to share. It was fun looking at childhood photos, reading news articles and re-watching events from over 50 years ago.
