Cary, North Carolina – An artist visiting Cary for the Lazy Daze Arts Festival said his trailer full of pottery, a tent, tables and other items had been stolen.
Robin Rodgers, a pottery artist from Atlanta, Georgia, said the stolen items totaled more than $10,000. The caravan he rented for the festival was stolen from the parking lot of his hotel in Cary on Friday evening.
Rodgers told WRAL News that he attends art festivals across the country to earn a living, but has now lost everything.
“One day this morning a thief disconnected my rental U-Haul from my car and stole the entire trailer with ALL of my work, display and text, pedestals, tables, covers, tools, risers, etc. Total loss. We we’re devastated,” he posted on Facebook.
Rodgers and his wife were staying at the Hilton Garden Inn at 131 Columbus Ave. in Cary. He thinks the thieves disconnected his trailer and put it on their own truck.
Hotel surveillance video captured the incident and Cary police are now looking for the white Ford 150 and U-Haul trailer, which has Pennsylvania tags.
A friend created a GoFundMe page for the artist, writing, “Art is Robin’s full-time career. He does many shows throughout the year across the country. Losing his inventory of work he’s been working on all summer isn’t something that’s easily replaced. He’ll also have to replace the trailer, all of his exhibit props, and his tent. Additionally, he will be forced to cancel a number of his upcoming shows and lose revenue as a result.
As of Sunday morning, the page had raised $2,875.
Lazy Daze, now in its 46th year, was held Saturday and Sunday at the Cary City Hall campus.
