HONOLULU — Helping Hands Hawai’i and American Savings Bank are partnering for the eighth grade to help Hawai’i keiki prepare for school through the Ready to Learn program.
From June 13 to July 15, cash donations and donations of school supplies will be accepted at all ASB sites that will support children from low-income and homeless families.
“Our Ready To Learn program has a tradition of supporting the community and provides children with free education kits containing essential school supplies each fall,” said Susan Furuta, President and CEO of HHH.
“And we couldn’t provide this assistance without business partners like ASB, who are invested in the welfare of the keiki statewide.”
“We are excited to continue our ongoing partnership with Helping Hands Hawai’i to nurture and prepare students for the future and provide them with supplies and resources to succeed in school,” said Ann Teranishi, President and CEO of the management of ASB.
“We invite the community to join us in improving the education of local students by donating at one of our locations across the state.”
Donations received through this partnership supplement pre-ordered inventory purchased with donated and subsidized funds for K-12 students.
School supply kits contain an array of the most common items found on state Department of Education back-to-school lists. Each kit is valued at approximately $30 and the goal is to distribute 1,000 kits to students.
Items needed to assemble the school supply kits are backpacks, erasers, assorted color markers, black and blue ball point pens, face masks, colored pencils, composition notebooks lines, folders, #2 pencils, 24-pack colored pencils, four-ounce bottles of glue, black permanent markers, dry-erase markers, hand sanitizer, two-pocket wallets, headphones with microphones, highlighters yellow cards and USB sticks.
