CHENNAI: Following recent viral videos which captured the unruly behavior of school children, the School Education Department is planning to issue guidance to pupils.
“Based on recommendations from principals, we will employ experts to advise,” School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi said in a statement.
He announced a slew of measures to raise awareness, understand children and encourage them to participate in creative activities from the start of the next school year.
“To get to know the students better, the school education department will organize monthly parent-teacher-student meetings with the help of the school management committees. Now defunct, literary and fine arts clubs in schools will be revived. Students will be encouraged to participate in sports activities, literary activities and art festivals in addition to academics,” Poyyamozhi said.
Students who excel in the activities will be taken on educational tours to other countries, states and other locations.
“The department will conduct an awareness campaign during the first week of the upcoming school year on mental health, child abuse prevention and substance abuse. The department will encourage students to garden and use vegetables, fruits and spinach in nutritious student meals,” he added.
The department will also release three magazines to encourage creativity in the school’s students.
