What better way to celebrate National Reading Month than with story times and book clubs at your local library!

IMAGINE story time

IMAGINE with us at the Seymour Library during this fun and interactive story hour! Each story hour will be followed by a hands-on activity. This program is designed for children ages 2-5, but all are welcome.

• 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Monday, May 2: Rainbows! After the rain, there is always a rainbow! Join us for a colorful story hour! Then create your own rainbow using your favorite colors.

• 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Monday, May 9: Birds of a feather! Take to the skies with this bird-themed story time! Then use your imagination to design your own bird!

• Monday, May 16 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.: Be happy! Be merry with this frog-themed story time with stories, songs, a lily pad obstacle course, and a craft!

• Monday 23 May at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.: Gardening friends! What’s in your garden? As the flowers begin to bloom and grow outdoors, learn about the insects you might encounter in your garden during this fun story hour. So make a silly pom-pom snail!

Want to know more this spring, but need a little help? Try a Seymour Library book club!

Check out “whodunit” during the Coffee and Crime Book Club at noon on Tuesday, May 10 via Zoom. This month’s featured series is Jonathan Kellerman’s Alex Delaware series. Choose any book in the series to read! For meeting information, email mlovell@seymourlib.org.

May the Fourth Family Fun Event

Have you checked out our Family Space Maker station? Each week there will be a different DIY challenge for families to create or build together! In May, we’ll explore colors, birds, gardens and more!

Genealogy workshops

The Seymour Library is proud to announce the next installments of its Personalizing History project, a program funded by the American Rescue Plan*.

African American Genealogy Workshop: Whether you’re new to researching your family history or already doing genealogy research, this is your chance to have your individual questions answered in-depth by Dr. Shelley Viola Murphy. Participants can attend in person or virtually via Zoom from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 5. The number of places is limited and prior registration is required.

Introduction to DNA Testing: Who, What, Where and Why: Learn about the basics of DNA testing for genealogy research during this virtual presentation with Renate Yarborough Sanders from 6-7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17. Prior registration is required.

The construction of the library hall is in progress. When planning your visit to the library, remember to use the historic main entrance, located off Genesee Street.
