After a long wait, the Premier Pet Supply store has opened at 128 S. Merriman in the mall along with Kroger and other stores. Opened in the space formerly occupied by Hallmark, Premier Pet Supply offers products for pet owners of all kinds: cats, dogs, birds, reptiles and more.
Shelves are stocked with food, toys, accessories and more to help pet owners with all their needs. There are also two self-service wash stations for cleaning up messy pets.
Ashley Jackson, director of training and customer success for the company, said she noticed that many of their customers at other stores in nearby communities such as Livonia and Canton Township traveled from Westland to do their shopping. purchases.
“There was already a need for this area,” she said. “We had a lot of our clientele in that postcode, so we knew it would be a good fit if we could find it for sure.”
Today, many customers come from surrounding communities, including Westland, Garden City, and Inkster.
The shop. owned by Steve Shamou, brings a pet supply store back to the mall on the corner of Merriman and Cherry Hill: Pet Valu once operated out of a different building in the plaza, although closed in 2020 after the business closed all its stores in the United States due to the economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Shoppers have been anticipating the store opening for some time now, Jackson said. Employees began informally tracking the number of people who would approach the store when they saw shipments arriving, but before their doors were opened.
“Literally there would be a huge pallet here and people were grabbing a cart and getting ready to shop,” she said. “People wanted us as soon as we started bringing product in. We’ve been stable since we opened.”
Premier Pet Supply also operates stores in Novi, Beverly Hills and several other communities. Two other stores are also expected to open soon: one in downtown Detroit and one in Riverview.
