The Paulding Soil and Water Conservation District, Paulding County Park District, Paulding County Park District and Lafarge of Paulding are planning several events to celebrate Earth Day 2022, the launch of the 67th National Association of Conservation District (NACD) Stewardship Week and Arbor Day.

On Friday, April 22, the Paulding Lafarge factory is partnering with the Paulding Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) to celebrate Earth Day 2022 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Lafarge factory headquarters. Then on Saturday, April 23, you are invited to the Black Swamp Nature Center, 753 Fairground Dr., at 8:00 a.m. for a site cleanup, mulching, and light trail maintenance. We will provide trash bags and work gloves. Please bring pruning tools/string trimmers if you have them. We will be distributing a limited number of tree seedlings on Saturday morning and donuts will also be provided. Opportunities to help out later in the day exist at Paulding County parks. Visit New Rochester Park, 11885 Rd. 424, Cecil from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Stop by Saturday and help make Paulding County a better place to live and play!

Summary

The nature center is operated by the Paulding Soil and Water Conservation District and is located on the south side of Paulding at the corner of Fairground Drive and Route 107. The site comprises 51 acres of woodland, wetlands, meadows and a garden of pollinators. This area is open to the public from dawn to dusk for nature trail walking, flatrock fishing, and other forms of outdoor recreation. The Nature Center building is available for workshops, trainings, meetings, youth groups and personal rentals. As SWCD staff prepare the area for summer activities, we are asking for help from communities to clean up the site. By working with community organizations, their employees and the residents of Paulding County, we hope to help foster a sense of pride and stewardship.
