Mount Gay Distilleries recently stepped up its sustainability efforts by hosting a hands-on exercise on a biodynamic farm for its team members.

Chief Executive Raphael Grisoni explained that the event, held at Peg Farm and Nature Reserve under the theme One Team, Sustainably, saw more than 120 staff divided into six teams to participate in a number of activities using the Mount Gay High Performance Team (HPT).

He noted: “Each team carried out a number of tasks ranging from clearing the floor of the ravine, building bee boxes, weeding, preparing vegetable garden beds, planting trees, plants and seasonings suitable for bees, animal feed and the preparation of meals using fresh local produce. .

“In addition, they had to answer a quiz on sustainability and prepare a presentation on their activities as part of their tasks. We wanted to make this a fun day while emphasizing our sustainability mission and highlighting the simple tasks our staff members can do day-to-day in their homes and communities, which will be good augurs well for them and for the country as a whole.

“Just a few months ago, we received our Bonsucro certification, which reinforced our commitment to the sustainability of not only our industry, but also the well-being of our employees and today’s business is an extension of these efforts.”

During the event, several recognition awards were presented, including the Best performer of the year 2021-2022 which went to Sheldon Brathwaite, Maintenance Technician.

Meanwhile, the Managing Director’s High Performance Team of the Year award went to the Commercial Department, led by Market Director Anies Jordan.

The team was praised for its excellent contribution to revenue growth during the year as well as for the mindset of the team members, whom Grisoni described as very nimble and creative.
