THE Government of Selangor has taken various measures to ensure the sustainability and stability of its food system in line with the National Food Security Policy Action Plan 2021-2025.
State Infrastructure and Public Amenities, Agriculture Modernization and Agro Industry Committee Chairman Izham Hashim said the measures are part of the Selangor Agro (PeTA) Transformation Plan In progress.
The PeTA, he said, included five main policies, namely high value-added products, modernization of agriculture, complete supply chain, development of agro-entrepreneurs and agro-tourism. , did he declare.
Izham said that currently Selangor’s domestic food supply levels are relatively low, especially for protein food sources such as beef and lamb where it is below 5%.
“As for the production of rice, it is only 33%, ginger (3.8%), sawi (56.4%), peppers (9.1%) and cucumber (26.7%). %).
“Fresh produce that achieves more than 100% self-sufficiency are sugar cane (211.8%) and starfruit (107.7%), while poultry is at 64.73% and chicken eggs ( 44.91%),” he said.
PeTA’s goals, Izham said, included productivity (increase the amount of production and directly increase self-sufficiency levels); economy (increased contribution to the value of the agro-food sector in Selangor); and human capital (creating income opportunities, especially for young people, and providing practical training and advice to interested parties).
He was responding to a question from Juwairiya Zulkifli (PH-Bukit Melawati) during the state assembly sitting in Shah Alam.
Juwairiya had asked about the measures taken by the state government to ensure adequate food supply for the people.
Regarding the implementation of PeTA, Izham said it would be divided into nine groups.
The first three clusters are Caring Agro (agricultural waste management and incentive aid for farmers, breeders, fishermen and agro-industries); Community Agro (urban agro programs and community gardens as well as student agro and agro schools); and Agro Center of Excellence (increasing research and implementation to produce plant seeds, livestock breeds and aquaculture as well as reducing the cost of livestock feed).
The other clusters are Agropreneurs Selangor (implementation of the Ikon Selangor program and registration of agropreneurs); Agrotourism (create more agrotourism places on the basis of existing agricultural projects); Driving Agro Selangor (construction and upgrading of infrastructure related to the agricultural sector); Agro-business (creation of more comprehensive collection points and direct-to-consumer outlets such as Selangor Agro Market).
Another cluster is E-agro, an agricultural data collection center to process information on agricultural land owned by the state government and its subsidiaries.
The last group is the Smart Selangor Agro Park and the Smart Selangor Agro Farm, which involved the opening of more subsistence farming areas based on the PeTA policy.
