The Boyle County Public Library offers free activities for patrons of all ages. The library currently hosts Dinosaur Discovery, an exhibit featuring over 120 fossils and casts from the collection curated by Dr. John Hankla. Stop by to explore the free exhibition, which will remain on display until the end of March. Virtual tours and interactive school tours are also available. Teen D&D
On Saturday, March 5 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., teens can play what some are calling the greatest role-playing game of all time. During this in-person event, players will venture into campaigns that will test their ability to work together and conquer enemies in this tabletop adventure. Registration is required to play. If you are looking to start a garden or want to grow indoor plants, join us on Tuesday March 8 or Saturday March 12 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. for this seed germination program where you can bring home the yours. set of germinating seeds to plant this spring. This event will take place in front of the library entrance. (All ages are welcome.)
Teen Writing Club
On Tuesdays in March, teenagers are invited to learn about different aspects of writing in this series. Join us to hone your writing skills in the areas of plot, theme, character creation, descriptive writing, and dialogue. This writing workshop will take place every week on Tuesdays at 4:00 p.m. in the community room. Join however you can. Masks are mandatory. (13-18 years old)
Boyle County Writers
On Tuesday, March 8 at 5:30 p.m., get together with other writers to practice your writing skills, share your work, and receive feedback from your peers. Hosted by local author Paul Stansbury, this event will take place in the library’s conference room. Masks are mandatory. (18 and over)
Between taking and doing
On Thursday, March 10, tweens can use their DIY skills to make a “dinosaur poo” fossil. This program is a take-and-make-only kit, so you can use more items you find in the wild around your home to add to your poo fossils. Once you’ve collected your supplies kit, watch Librarian Kinsey in the attached video to see how to create an awesome, crude fossil of your own creation. While stocks last. (9-13 years old)
Teen Advisory Board (TAB)
Teens are invited to share their thoughts on the Library as part of this new advisory group. On Thursday, March 10 at 4 p.m., join us for fun activities and share your ideas on how to improve programs and services for teens at the library. This program will take place in the multipurpose room on the 5th level. (13-18 years old)
Careful craftsmen
Thursdays from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., join us to knit and crochet items for those in need. This knitting and crocheting group welcomes current and new members to weekly craft meetings at the library. Some materials provided. Beginners are welcome. This event will take place in the Reading Room. Masks are mandatory. (13 years and over)
Game on!
Teens are invited to play video games at the library on Fridays from 4-5:20 p.m. Battle with friends in Super Smash Bros or race in Mario Kart 8. This event will take place on the 5th level of the library . Masks are mandatory. (13-18 years old)
Board game club for adults
The library will release its collection of board games on Saturday March 12 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Adults are encouraged to bring a friend and try new games or play their old favorites. The library has games for all levels of players and staff eager to show you how to play. This after-hours event will take place in the Library’s Community Room. Masks are mandatory. (18 and over)

Third Thursday Morning Book Club
In March, the book club will read First: Sandra Day O’Connor by Evan Thomas. Copies of the book are available at the circulation desk, while supplies last. The discussion around the book will take place on Thursday, March 17 at 10:30 a.m. in the community room. (18 and over)
Teen LibCrates
Teen LibCrates can be picked up at the library anytime in March, while supplies last. Each crate will include a free book and other goodies. This month’s book is Nathan’s The Montague Twins: The Witch’s Hand page. An in-person book discussion will be held on March 29 to share thoughts on the book. (13-18 years old)
Tween LibCrates
Get your Tween LibCrate anytime in March, while supplies last. This month’s book is We’re Not From Here by Geoff Rodkey. Each crate will include a free book, crafts, snack, and prize. Join the wrap-up discussion in person on March 31 to share your feedback and do themed activities. (9-13 years old)
Free tax prep
The Boyle County Public Library has again partnered with the AARP Foundation and United Way of the Bluegrass to host a free tax preparation service. Until mid-April, tax specialists will be set up in the library on Tuesdays and Saturdays to help people with the tax return process. This service is made possible through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. These tax preparation services are available by appointment only.
AARP Tax Assistance Services will be available Tuesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Although anyone can make an appointment, the program is particularly focused on low-to-moderate income tax payers aged 50 and over. To make an appointment, call 859-374-1415 or email 500052568@aarpfoundation.org.
United Way VITA tax preparation assistance will be available by appointment only on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for individuals whose household income was less than $56,000 last year. For more information and to make an appointment, call 2-1-1 or go online at uwbg.org/CKEEP.
