Several local organizations and community members in North Texas are helping provide families with backpacks and other school supplies for the upcoming school year.

This list of drives and events for DFW residents will be updated regularly. Here are a few events we’ve gathered so far:

DALLAS

Not My Son Back-to-School Community Festival

The event is free for students of all ages and their families. Registration is mandatory until August 13 to receive the essential elements of the start of the school year. Parents or guardians must be able to provide each student’s name, age, gender, school name, and grade. Students must also be present to receive the supplies. Wristbands and meal tickets will be given to parents and students at the park’s registration tent.

For the Oak Cliff Infinity Back to School Festival

For Oak Cliff, a Dallas-based nonprofit, is hosting its 8th Annual Infinity Back to School Festival on Saturday, August 13 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Glendale Park. Pre-registration for backpacks is closed but the organization invites families to attend and register students on site on Saturday. Find out more on the association’s website

FORT WORTH

Race to Register: Fort Worth ISD Family Fun Day Student Enrollment and Resource Fair

Fort Worth ISD will offer online registration support for students along with backpack and book giveaways as well as musical games, food trucks and more. The event will also include a car show by the DFW King and Queen Corvette Club.

Fort Worth PD Back to School Backpack and School Supplies

Several local businesses, including Townsquare Mortgage, Providence Title, and Prosperity Bank, are joining forces to hold this supply distribution event on Sunday, August 14 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Fort Worth Police Department located at 1000 Calvert St.

The event will feature limited haircuts, hot dogs, drinks, backpacks and other school supplies. Learn more on the Fort Worth Police Department Facebook page.

St. Matthew’s Missionary Baptist Church Back-to-School Fair

The event is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the church at 5500 East Berry Street in Fort Worth. The fair will feature more than 15 vendors and will offer free haircuts and school supply giveaways as well as fun activities for kids including face painting. GREAT PRAIRIE

Back to School from the Tony Shotwell Life Center

Tony Shotwell Life Center is partnering with Amerigroup to offer free backpacks and school supplies Saturday, August 13 from 10 a.m. to noon, or while supplies last.

This is a first-come, first-served event and the organizers will be distributing tickets to receive the backpacks. There is a maximum of 2 backpacks per family. There will be other vendors at the event handing out school supplies. For more information, please call 972-237-7529.

Distribution of driving backpacks in Grand Prairie

On Saturday, August 13, families are invited to walk through the Stanton Garden parking lot to receive backpacks filled with school supplies. The organizers will offer a maximum of two backpacks to each vehicle. No registration is required.

HUNTING COUNTY

Free back to school haircuts for kids

Trimsetters Barber Academy licensed barbers will be providing free haircuts to children in Hunt County to prepare them to return to school.
