Holywell Town Center Steps get a makeover

A HOLYWELL councilman is looking to brighten up the town by getting citizens to sponsor a downtown stopover.

Cllr Dan Thomas has reached out to his social media channels to urge people to consider helping him in his bid to add color to a set of ‘boring’ steps that lead up to the tower gardens, while also educating community members with Alzheimer’s disease. and additional needs.

Cllr Thomas said: “As an avid running coach and ultra-runner I put in a lot of miles. And with dyslexia and ADHD, I see things other people wouldn’t normally see. The color is what I notice when I run. And I notice when things seem dull without life.

“As I was walking up those steps I thought they were boring which also put me in a boring mood. I realized as I was running through the underpass and climbing those steps that all the area was gray and miserable.”

Cllr Thomas’ Learning Steps program will encourage Holywell residents to sponsor a step and personalize it with a bright color while leaving a message of their own. It could be promoting a business, a conversation starter, or times tables to help kids learn.

He added: “I put this idea directly on my Facebook page to see what response I would get. I not only wanted to help people with learning difficulties, but also people with dementia.

“I wanted to create something positive for this region. Everyone thinks it’s a great idea.”

A lot of what Daniel is trying to achieve is to educate older people in the community who may be suffering from Alzheimer’s, so including painted conversation starters on the steps, he says, is a great way. to keep the mind active, for example, having questions such as “what is your favorite childhood memory”

“Money I have found is always an issue so why not get the community involved and they can contribute funds to these stages by sponsoring a stage either with their company logo, their own name or my favourite; a memorial milestone for a loved one. From this idea now and as a councilor I want to make the town of Holywell a colorful and dementia friendly town.

Stage sponsorship will be available from £50 and for further details members of the public are asked to contact Advisor Thomas by messaging him via his Facebook page for more information.
