St. Giles Church’s mascot, Giles the Mouse, is actively working with parishioners to plan a fun day for the kids at the church’s annual fair on Saturday, July 30. Hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The address is 72 Gardiner Road, Jefferson.

A highlight of the children’s activities will be a Hobby Horse show jumping competition – a timed event taking place at 11am. Children can bring their own hobby horse (stick horse) or use a horse provided by the fair organizers.

Additionally, there will be a miniature horse demonstration event. Before the fair, children can dress up their favorite horse model and then bring it to the fair to be judged and possibly win a prize.

And there will be seven activity booths for the kids – ring toss, sand art, cornhole setup, obstacle course, clown beanbag toss, brave rubber ducky, went fishing. All children’s activities are free through sponsorship by the Berry and Burbank Law Firm.

For adults, there will be a raffle featuring wonderful giveaways and gift certificates from local businesses and restaurants.

There will also be a silent auction of four items – an exquisite multi-coloured blue handmade quilt, professional knee pads, Australian horse saddle and firewood.

For the first time at the show, payment for purchased items can be made by credit or debit card as well as cash or cheque.

And, as usual, St. Giles parishioners will have their traditional pie sale, a country cupboard stand offering jams, jellies and vegetables, and a garden corner that will offer potted perennials for the fall planting, grasses, houseplants and geraniums for wintering, and gardening equipment and garden accessories.

Plus, many vendors will sell a wide variety of handicrafts, including pottery, paintings, soaps and perfumes – a great way to start your Christmas shopping.

The majority of the fair’s activities will take place outdoors on the large church grounds under tall pine trees. And a local food truck will provide lunch and snacks for hungry fair goers.

Money raised will help fund St. Giles and its outreach activities, including ongoing support for the Jefferson-area Community Food Pantry.
