MANISTEE – Spirit of the Woods Garden Club, Inc. is due to meet next month.
The event is scheduled for noon July 11 at the Oak Grove Hospitality Center, located at 309 W. Parkdale Ave. at Manistee.
Dorothy Sandoval, Michigan Garden Clubs District 5 Director, will present updates from the National and Michigan Garden Clubs.
At the June 13 club meeting, member Vickie Johnson presented Saving Seeds – Growing and Saving Flower Seeds.
“There are many reasons to plant flowers from saved seed, including: saving money, preserving home culture, and growing old plants that are not commercially available,” according to a press release.
The first step is to select the seeds to register. Johnson recommended that gardeners study their gardens throughout the season to identify which plants are most successful.
“The seeds should be harvested when they are still a little green. Once harvested, the seeds should be dried for about a week on newspaper, a paper towel, rack or even an old mosquito net. Once dry, they should be stored in a dark place in an airtight container to keep moisture out,” the press release read in part.
