Now that Dennis Meeches is no longer the Chief of the Long Plain First Nation, he is very happy to see where the First Nation is going.

Meeches says Long Plain First Nation is in the best position it has ever been.

“There are a lot of opportunities. There are a lot of projects on the table that will start this spring,” continues Meeches. “For example, an $11 million education and welfare project and the Long Plain School expansion. We are looking at a water treatment upgrade of about $10 million, but I think the engineering and architectural design will take place this year and work will start the following year. We have a $6.5 million commercial project planned for Keeshkeemaquah. We have the grand opening of Windham Garden on the 4th August, but it should have a soft opening in July.

He notes that if a good board is in place and he listens to his financial management teams and senior executives, he will do well.

“To some degree, we have to make sure that we continue the good work that has been started,” adds Meeches. “And I have to thank the administration I’ve worked with over the years. We’ve done a lot of great things for Long Plain First Nation. But there’s still a lot of work to do. It never really ends. “

Kyra Wilson has been elected as the new Chief of Long Plain First Nation. Portage Online will contact her shortly.
