Dare Cooperative Extension plans several upcoming activities – The Coastland Times

The Dare County Cooperative Extension office organizes upcoming events and programs for adults and children.

Ask a Master Gardener will be available at the Outer Banks Arboretum and Learning Garden every Wednesday from April through November, weather permitting, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Bring questions, samples and photos about the garden or get a soil sample kit.

Kids ages 5-18 are invited to learn all about creating a 4-H party at a free event on Saturday, April 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The class will include brainstorming ideas, learning presentation categories and preparing for the district contest. (Children 5-7 years old can participate, but they do not compete.) Register before April 22 by calling or emailing Ruth Perkins at 252-473-4290 or raperki2@ncsu.edu. The course will be held at the Dare County Cooperative Extension Office.

Get a head start on the bounty of the summer garden by learning how to preserve strawberries. The class will be held Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at 10 a.m. at the Dare County Co-op Extension Office and the cost is $10. Call or email Dee Furlough at 252-473-4290 or dee_furlough@ncsu.edu record.

Celebrate Earth Day and learn more about azaleas! Join the Dare County Master Gardeners at the Outer Banks Arboretum and Teaching Garden for an Earth Day celebration with a talk and tour Friday, April 22 (drizzle or shine) at 10:30 a.m. at 300 Mustian Street at Kill Devil Hills. The program is free; no registration is required.
