Calusa Garden November Plant Sale Features Succulent Dish Gardens | Clubs & Organizations

Members of the Marco Island Calusa Garden Club prepare for their Nov. 22 sale of plants, Thanksgiving arrangements and succulent food gardens. Recently, a group met at Linda Colombo’s home to design and plant luscious vegetable gardens. Colombo led the group in teaching them how to put the gardens together; a layer of drainage rocks or pebbles is needed if the dish does not have drainage holes, and porous soil such as cactus mix should be used. Gardens can be decorated with seashells or colorful rocks placed between plants. Members helped each other with design feedback as they placed their plants in the containers of their choice.

Workshop participants were Sara Wolf, Marsha Riss, Sharon Sutton, Monna Hormel, Margie Bramel and Laura Furlong in addition to workshop leader Colombo. Club members prepared a total of 30 succulent food gardens of varying sizes and styles of containers to sell at their Thanksgiving and Plant Arrangement Sale on Nov. 22. Workshop members contributed 20 and had fun as they worked, rearranged and finalized their creations.
