Susan Billmayer, a member of Bullhook Blossoms, of Hogeland, was honored by the Montana Federation of Garden Clubs at their annual meeting in Missoula in June as member of the year.

Susan has dedicated over three decades volunteering for the Bullhook Blossoms club, Jumping Junipers and the Montana Federation of Garden Clubs. As project president and committed leader of two local clubs, of which she was a member, her enthusiastic, outgoing, “can-do” attitude attracted new members along the Hi-Line area of ​​rural Montana. Members want to be in her club because she is an active and welcoming friend.

Susan is a Montana Life Member, attends state and district meetings, and reports programs and policies to members. You will regularly see her volunteering at club, district and state meetings, as well as graciously hosting MFGC officers on statewide tours.

As a gardener, Susan is closely linked to the vagaries of Mother Nature on the farm she shares with her husband. Thus, his desire to broaden his knowledge of horticulture and teach club members and youth about growing edibles, flowers and houseplants. Susan uses these teaching skills and travels many miles to present educational programs throughout the state.

Over the past 15 years, one of Susan’s most notable contributions has been her oversight and ultimate responsibility for the Montana Flower Show Schools Program and Flower Show Judges’ Symposiums. In this position, she connects with more than 30 judges across the state and provides them with the opportunity to maintain a good reputation as judges. Susan encourages judges and club members to create high-calibre, educational flower displays, and she maintains close contact with the Montana Judges Council. When Susan participates in flower shows as a candidate, she easily wins an impressive number of blue ribbons in the fields of horticulture and design.

In addition, she demonstrates her high level of dedication by negotiating contracts with instructors and on the school site, creating the budget and marketing for events, registering schools and symposia with national garden clubs. , organizing exams, keeping track of the large amount of paperwork. paid for a school and maintain student and judge records.
