A fantastic festival of football and fun for clubs from Wicklow to Ballinakill

Beautiful weather, fantastic football and smiling faces were the three ingredients that came together to make last Saturday’s Wicklow LGFA U12 Football Festival a superb success in Ballinakill last weekend.

From the moment the first ball was kicked in by referee Pamela Prendergast for the start of the match between Blessington 1 and AGB, the action was relentless and the football was of a high standard across the venue.

The organization was excellent, the matches staggered to allow medal presentations to all the players by the group of inter-departmental players who attended the event. Parking was well planned and there was coffee and ice cream on site to meet any needs on a scorching day in Garden County.

In total there were 14 matches across the six pitches, the first starting at 11am and the last at 1.45pm and large numbers of supporters came out to cheer on their daughters, sisters, nieces or granddaughters as they proudly wore the their club colours.

Interestingly no scores were recorded in these games which left the players free to play football for the most part and there seemed to be a stress free element to the whole event as the results were not on the highest agenda in terms of priorities.

It’s fair to say that given the interest and attendance at Ballinakill last Saturday, the future is bright for women’s football in Wicklow, provided standards continue to rise and plans are put in place. place to take Wicklow to higher levels as these young players progress. game ranks.
